Ways to combine your kids' team and school calendars
Every option below starts the same way: copy each team's calendar link (TeamSnap, GameChanger, Crossbar, the school site). They differ in what happens next. Features of other tools are as described on their own sites.
Subscribing to each link in Google or Apple Calendar
Free and built in: each team shows as its own calendar you can toggle, and Siri, widgets and notifications work. The catch is speed: Google Calendar re-reads subscribed links only every several hours, up to a day, so a coach's last-minute change may not reach your phone in time. You also manage every link on every parent's phone.
BlendedCal
Merges your links into one link, can split the result into sub-feeds (say, games only for grandparents), filters out words or events, and says it refreshes faster. You configure it on the web and family members subscribe.
iCal Merge
A free utility that flattens several calendar links into one link that works in any calendar app, and runs in the background.
Schedule Caddie
A web dashboard that combines your league links, color-coded by child or team, and builds a combined link.
FamilyCal
Does the merging, the per-kid calendars and the shared “games only” links, and adds:
- Changes in minutes, not hours. Connect Google Calendar or Outlook and FamilyCal writes events straight in after every sync (every 10 minutes), instead of waiting for Google to re-read a link.
- Last-minute changes from the team chat. Connect GroupMe and “practice moved to 7:30” moves the event, even when the coach never updates the team app.
- AI that does the setup and the messy parts. Paste any link and it figures out what it is; paste a coach's email, a flyer or a PDF and the events are added; type “Kennedy pediatrician Tue 9:15” and it fills in the appointment.
- Ask it. Connect Claude or ChatGPT, or ask Alexa: “what's on tomorrow?”, “anything clash this weekend?”, “what's for lunch Friday?”
- School, done properly. Keep only no-school days from a busy district calendar (one entry per day, even when the district lists it twice), plus the school lunch menu.
- Clean-up everywhere. Drop “[TBD]” from every title, hide a practice type one kid never goes to.
- Both parents. Invite your partner; you share one family.
