Questions parents ask
Why do TeamSnap or GameChanger changes show up late in Google Calendar?
Google Calendar re-reads subscribed calendar links on its own schedule, every several hours and sometimes up to a day, and there's no button to make it refresh. FamilyCal can connect to Google Calendar or Outlook and write events straight in after every sync, so changes show up in minutes.
How do I put several kids' team schedules and the school calendar in one calendar?
Copy the calendar link from each app (see the guides), paste them into FamilyCal, and subscribe to or connect the combined calendar. Each kid gets their own color-coded calendar, plus one for school days off.
Can I share only the games with grandparents?
Yes. Make a shared link in FamilyCal: pick the kids, tick “games only”, optionally hide addresses. They can subscribe in any calendar app or just open the link; no account needed. Delete it any time to turn it off.
What if an app has no calendar link, or the schedule is in an email or a PDF?
Paste the email, flyer or PDF into FamilyCal through Claude or ChatGPT and the events are added. Team chats in GroupMe can be read too, so “practice moved to 7:30” updates the calendar.
Can I get only the days off from our school district calendar?
Yes. When you connect a school calendar, tick “only days off”: FamilyCal keeps no-school days, holidays, breaks, workdays and early releases and drops board meetings and the like, one entry per day.
Does it work with Alexa, Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. Ask Alexa “ask Family Coach what's on tomorrow” or add an appointment by voice, and connect Claude or ChatGPT to ask about the schedule, find clashes or import a coach's email.
Is FamilyCal free?
Yes. FamilyCal is free, from the makers of YouthCoach.
Does everyone in the family need an account or an app?
No. One parent sets it up (a second parent can be invited); everyone else just subscribes to a calendar link in the calendar app they already use.
